GMP+ FSA
What is GMP+? GMP+ stands for GMP Certification Scheme Animal Feed Sector 2006, a quality assurance system for the animal feed chain. It is maintained by the Dutch Product Board Animal Feed (PDV). GMP+ is a combination of the international foodstuffs industry's Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Points (HACCP) system and the good manufacturing and managing practice quality assurance standards based on ISO 9001. Also Regulation (EC) no. 183/2005 of the European Parliament and the Council of 12 January 2005 apply.
The main focus of GMP+ is on animal feed safety as a component of overall food safety. This is achieved by obliging chain parties only to obtain raw materials from GMP+ certified companies, thus ensuring that all the consecutive links in the various production chains apply the quality standards. GMP+ is currently being expanded to cover the entire chain, from feed ingredients producer to transport company and livestock farmer.
Types of GMP+ standards GMP+ aims at covering the whole animal feed chain from primary producer via feedstuff manufacturer and transport company to livestock farmer. For that the scheme consists of a range of standards. There are standards for production and processing of feed (B1), quality control of feed materials produced from suppliers outside the Netherlands (B2), trade in feed for livestock (B3), trade, collection and storage & transhipment of feeds (B3 2007), affreightment and transport by road, sea and rail (B4), storage and transhipment of feed for livestock (B5), feed materials cultivation (B6), production of and trade in pet foods (B8) and laboratory testing (B10).
In addition, separate standards have been drawn up for a number of special activities, such as storage, keeping and feeding of animal feeds at poultry and pig farms (B7) and special regulations for grass fed chickens and freerange animals (B9).
The schema also includes a number of appendices to the various GMP+ standards, containing supplementary, specific requirements and guidelines such as
