The NON-GM / "Ohne GenTechnik" Add-on for Aquaculture and Livestock
Based on requests from GLOBALG.A.P. members, especially from aquaculture producers, to label their products with a NON-GM label that shall be visible to the consumer at the point of sale, GLOBALG.A.P. has developed an Add-on standard for NON-GM / "Ohne Gentechnik".
Due to rising concerns regarding the effects of genetically modified foods on consumer health, the German government developed a NON-GM label in line with EU legislation and licensed it to the German association VLOG e.v., the Industry Association Food without Genetic Engineering. VLOG, as the owner of the German OhneGenTechnik Standard, advocates food production without GMOs, engages in consumer information about GMOs, and allows licensees the use of the standardized seal "Ohne GenTechnik" on manufactured food products that meet their standards.
After intensive collaboration with VLOG representatives, GLOBALG.A.P. has developed a set of modules for a NON-GM Add-on that enables GLOBALG.A.P. certified compound feed producers, livestock and aquaculture producers and processors to label their products with the German VLOG Ohne GenTechnik seal. Like all GLOBALG.A.P. Add-on products, the NON-GM Add-on is designed to simplify assessments and avoid duplication and redundancies.
The NON-GM Add-on is available to feed manufacturers, aquaculture and livestock producers, processors and operators with its 3 targeted modules and with valid GLOBALG.A.P. certification for:
Compound Feed Manufacturing Standard
Aquaculture Standard
Livestock Standard
Chain of Custody Standard
The NON-GM Add-on is limited to:
Companies located and operating in EU member states where the EU regulations 1829/2003 and 1830/2003 are mandatory and in force.
Companies located and operating in countries where local legislation is equivalent to the above-mentioned EU regulations.
Companies located and operating in countries where the commercial cultivation and import of GMOs is not approved by the authorities of the country of production or is prohibited by law.

The NON-GM Add-on is voluntary and consists of 3 modules:
Module 1: Covers compound feed manufacturing and consists of 7 sections with one annex and a total of 21 control points.
Module 2: Covers the aquaculture and livestock farms. It consists of 6 sections and one annex with a total of 19 control points.
Module 3: Covers the processing companies that intend to process and supply aquaculture or livestock products to be labeled with the NON-GM / "Ohne GenTechnik" label. It consists of 8 sections and one annex with a total of 17 control points.
Upon passing the audit the certification body will issue a letter of conformance. To label the final product with the VLOG seal, the supplier must be alligned with and sign a specific license agreement with VLOG.
